Panther National is planned for 218 custom single-family estates ranging from approximately 4,100 to nearly 10,000 square feet, with four to seven bedrooms in one- and two-story configurations. Homesites come in three sizes — roughly one-third acre, one-half acre, and one full acre — positioned along the golf course, the lakes, and the preserve edge. The estates were designed by Miami architect Max Strang of Strang Design in an approach he calls environmental modernism — buildings shaped by orientation, shade, airflow, and the specific ecology of the site rather than by an imported architectural style. What makes it unusual is the ground itself. Roughly 2.5 million cubic yards of earth were moved to build dune ridges that rise 30 to 40 feet above the waterline — genuine elevation change on a site that started out as flat South Florida ranch land. Nicklaus contributed the strategic bunkering and aerial demands his courses are known for; Thomas pushed for ground-game options and shot-making variety. The bunkers are filled with sand drawn from all four major championships: The Masters, the U.S. Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship.
Golf Digest ranks The Big Cat No. 12 among the best courses in Florida and No. 195 on its list of America's Second 100 Greatest Courses. Recent projections put the opening in 2027.
Planned: a dedicated Racquet Center for tennis and pickleball, and a separate Lifestyle Club and Wellness Center with a spa, studio space, and resort-style pools with cabanas. Both are scheduled to follow the clubhouse; buyers should confirm current construction timelines with the developer, as phasing has shifted since the community's launch.
The setting does a great deal of the work regardless. The adjoining Avenir Conservation Area — 2,400 acres of restored pine flatwoods, freshwater marsh, strand swamp, wet prairie, and dry prairie — wraps Avenir's western and northern edges, which means the long views from Panther National are protected in perpetuity. The preserve functions as a wildlife corridor linking natural areas from Lake Okeechobee to the Atlantic, and its completed first phase includes four miles of groomed walking trails, portions of them ADA accessible, with additional trails planned as restoration continues. Avenir as a whole is planned for more than ten miles of trails.
Panther National sits off Northlake Boulevard within Avenir, whose master plan includes a commercial district, a town center, parks, and a public charter school. The Club at Ibis and PGA National's Estate Course lie a few miles east along the same corridor.
